ABOUT/CONTACT

| Maria Pezzano describes her work as an opportunity to express her passion and joy, with the simple instruments of brush, paint and canvas. Her paintings are instantly recognizable. For years her clients have collected her work, often repeat customers are her best way of advertising. |
About the brightness of her work Maria says “I think it brings forth
the smile I am experiencing as I paint. I love colour, this whole
style is about placing colour beside colour, adding patterns and the
sophisticated use of black line." |
Recently Maria has discovered a new way to put colour against colour,
pattern against pattern. Carving her own designs into rubber linoleum,
then pulling prints, Maria is creating lovely moody pieces, using a
deeper more romantic palette. These pieces are more process oriented. |
Maria's work has been collected both locally and internationally;
private commissions are located in Nortel Head Office in Brampton, The
Stone Tree Grill in Owen Sound, Fog and Suds Restaurants in Canada and
the United States. In a private villa in St. Thomas the Virgin

“My father was a tailor; I have a vivid memory of visiting him in his 3rd flr. studio in downtown Guelph. I was at least 8 or 9 years old. I remember my mother and I walking up old wooden staircases with unusually wide corridors and coming upon his studio space which consisted of super high ceilings, hardwood floors and these beautiful extra large wooden work tables. Each of these tables usually had beautiful rolls of expensive material laid upon them, and then his handmade patterns laid upon the material, I remember the tailors’ chalk and these enormous scissors. I was in awe as I watched my father make markings on the material. Each mark was his own, a code that told him where and how to cut the material. A short time ago I came across this photo of him in his studio and instantly this memory flooded back. This was my introduction to studio space, a private personal place where you go to create. This is a memory I cherish for I believe this experience is one of the most important ones I’ll always remember.” |
